How to facilitate strategizing: a training of trainers

More than ever, social activists need to become sharper strategically. Winning victories for justice, peace, and environmental sanity is not getting easier. It's time to work smarter, not harder.

The good news is that skills for smart facilitation coupled with new strategy tools are available! This workshop will help you expand your toolbox to help groups think strategically and be more effective at mobilizing.

In this experimental workshop, Training for Change will teach strategy tools to:

  • strengthen participation and democracy
  • build community
  • support creativity
  • increase a group's ability to focus and make a difference.

The workshop will share tools and give practice in using them.

  • New trainers who care about strategy as well as workshop facilitation skills
  • Educators in high schools and universities who want to apply experiential education methods in their settings

A NOTE ABOUT THE STRATEGY APPROACH OF TRAINING FOR CHANGE

Some groups want to convince you of their ideology or strategy. We don't believe in being rigidly ideological, but believe in a democratic approach where everyone gets to participate in creating strategy. So our approach is to offer training to strengthen group members' strategizing skills -- critical thinking, creativity. So if you want to support your group to find flexible, participatory ways to create strategy breakthroughs, this workshop is for you!
