Third-party Nonviolent Intervention Training of Trainers   PDF  Print  E-mail
A 4-day Advanced Training of Trainers

WHO SHOULD COME?

  • Experienced trainers for organizations which put teams into fields of conflict who want to expand their toolbox and share new thinking on design
  • People with training experience in other areas who want to be able to facilitate in the rapidly growing field of peace teams (peace team experience a plus)

GOALS OF THE WORKSHOP

  • To share new training tools invented by Training for Change while researching and writing the manual "Opening Space for Democracy"
  • To explore lesser-known training tools already in the field
  • To discuss design challenges when working with multi-cultural teams and preparing for cross-cultural interventions, especially how to handle stress/trauma and build resiliency
  • To practice facilitation in this rapidly-developing new field

WHY NOW?

The rising debate about "humanitarian military intervention" increases interest in third party nonviolent intervention to support human rights and peace. Effective training is key to successful alternatives.

Thanks to a special grant, Training for Change worked for two years to:

  • research existing best practices in training in the peace teams field
  • invent new training tools to supplement what already exists
  • weave all this into a new curriculum for third party nonviolent intervention
  • field-test it in summer 2003 for a pilot international peace team project.

FORMAT

The workshop runs 8am Fri. to 9pm Sat. It is designed as an experiential package and requires full participation; partial attendance not allowed. Building skills as a trainer raises important issues and emotions may surface during the workshop.

$100-250, sliding scale, according to ability to pay.

QUESTIONS ABOUT MONEY?

All of our workshops are on a sliding scale. That means we ask people to pay according to their ability. We generally recommend an amount based on your income.

If you can afford more, please pay more to assist others with less to attend. If you can only afford less, do not let money stop you from coming. You can contact our office for work exchange options, scholarships and ideas for funding sources.
