We'll be celebrating George with festivities at the Philadelphia Friends Meeting on Saturday night, and that is an important focus for the Homecoming. Yet in keeping with George's lifetime of work, we are doing more. The Homecoming weekend offers a "living history" community dinner on Friday evening and facilitated sessions all day Saturday to trainers, activists, and all who care about TfC. It's an opportunity to dig into your own work, pool wisdom with a nation-wide group of awesome trainers, generate visions, ideas and hopes about pressing social change issues. Then on Sunday morning, we'll come together to explore next steps including whether and how we continue to support and challenge each other. Cost: $150-300, sliding scale Friday Evening: Living History 4719 Springfield Ave We will gather at 5:00 pm to share dinner and reconnect with Training for Change and each other. Then we'll spend time creating a "living history" of Training for Change, including a timeline of how the organization evolved and stories of how we each have been involved with it. Saturday: Social Changers Day Friends Center, 1501 Cherry St On Saturday we will gather as a whole group at 9:00 am. We'll begin with inspiration for social change from George's new book on Direct Education, TfC's Strategy Project and other TfC programs. These will provide a springboard for us to use the Open Space Technology method for people to gather in smaller groups to focus on shared issues, topics and strategies. The content is determined by the passions of the people attending. We'll come back together to harvest the learnings and inspirations at the end of the afternoon. Saturday Evening: Celebrating George Lakey (and Raising Money!) Friends Center 1501 Cherry St On Saturday evening at 7:00 pm, we will reconvene to celebrate 15 years of George Lakey's work with Training for Change. We'll share memories, stories and toasts, and George will have an opportunity to reflect on his journey. We'll also raise money for the Activist Retirement Fund, which will first be used to support George after the end of this year! Sunday: Vision Morning 4719 Springfield Ave Training for Change has decided to lay fallow, like a rich field that has produced many crops, for the year of 2007. Recognizing that, on Sunday we will dream and envision about whether and how Training for Change might evolve after 2007 and how we can best support and challenge each other in the future. This will inform discussions of the next phase of TfC — your energy and insights will make a difference! In the spirit of Emergent Design, much of Sunday's agenda will be determined by what happens Friday and Saturday. Sound enticing? Please fill out the registration form for the weekend and if you have questions email Training for Change at peacelearn@igc.org, or call the TfC office at 215/241-6035. SEE YOU THERE! |
