(must be a graduate of TFC's Advanced Training of Trainers or Super-T to apply) April 7 - April 10, 2005 Thursday 9am to Sunday 6pm Philadelphia, PA Led by George Lakey and Karen Ridd WHAT IS THIS WORKSHOP? In experiential education we talk about the 4-stages of experiential education: experience, reflection, generalization, and application. One reason experiential education is so different is because it starts with people's own experience: lectures and most traditional teaching start with theory or explaining people's experience for them. Experiential education starts with people experience and then reflecting on that experience. But to maximize the power of the learning cycle requires the next two steps. To make the most of their learning, people must generalize their experience into key concepts and theory so that they can apply changes to their lives. GOALS In this new workshop, you will get clarity about the experiential cycle and how to move groups through the four phases. You will also have a chance to identify key theoretical concepts in your teaching area -- such as nonviolent action, or team-building, or cross-cultural work, or anti-oppression. - Increase your skill at presenting theory and concepts;
- Gain confidence and experience in moving a group from Stage 2 (Reflection) to Stage 3 (Generalization) to Stage 4 (Application);
- Identify key teaching concepts and theories in your teaching area.
