Wheelchair AccessibleThe University of the Sciences, the site of many of our workshops, is at the corner of 43rd Street and Woodland Avenue in West Philadelphia. USP is just south of the University of Pennsylvania campus, and just across the Schuylkill River from Center City, Philly's downtown area. That means it's easily accessible by car, trolley or cab. Just follow these instructions.Image

1. From Philadelphia International Airport, take the R1 train to 30th Street Station.The R1 train stops at every terminal in the airport. Trains leave every half hour, at approximately :09 minutes and :39 minutes after the hour. Tickets cost $5.50 and are sold on the train. The first train of the day leaves the airport at 6:09 a.m., the last train at 12:09 a.m. (9 mins. after midnight).

2. Get off at 30th Street Station, about a 20-minute ride.

1. In 30th Street Station, go to the majestic central waiting room. After admiring the architecture, walk toward the flower stand and the tall banner that reads "Food Court." Walk under the banner, and go straight down the hallway past the cafés and food stands, and exit the building through the corner door marked "30th Street."

2. Once outside, walk to the closest intersection, the corner of 30th and Market St., where you'll see an entrance to the subway--the sign reads "Subway-Surface, Green Lines."

3. Go down the stairs into the subway. At the token booth, buy 2 tokens for $2.60. (You cannot buy just one token.) Enter the turnstiles and follow signs for "Trolleys Westbound."

4. Take either trolley #11 or #36. You'll get off at 43rd St., about a 10-minute ride. (When you come out of the tunnel at 40th St., you're almost there; pull the cord to signal a stop when you pass 42nd St. If you exit through the rear door, note that you must step down for the door to open.)

  • For Rosenberger Hall: After exiting the trolley, turn right onto 43rd Street. Rosenberger Hall is a small building on the left side of the street. We'll be in Room 101.
  • For the Wilson Student Center: After exiting the trolley, cross the street and walk back half a block. Follow the path into campus. The Wilson Center is on your left and has white peaked roofs.

Total cost to USP: $7-$10 from train station, $10-$12 from the bus station, $15-$20 from the airport.

1. Tell the driver you are going to University of the Sciences in West Philadelphia: the location is Woodland Avenue and 43rd St.

  • For Rosenberger Hall: After leaving the cab, turn right onto 43rd Street. Rosenberger Hall is a small building on the left side of the street.
  • For the Wilson Student Center: Have the cab drop you off on Woodland, halfway between 43rd and 44th St. Look for the path that leads into campus. The Wilson Center is on your left and has white peaked roofs.

1. Exit the bus station from the main door and turn right. At the corner, turn left onto 11th St. Walk 1 block and turn right onto Market St. Continue to the corner of Market and 13th, where you'll enter the subway--the sign reads, "Subway-Surface, Green Lines."

1. First, follow these directions, depending on your route:
  • From I-76 East: Take exit 346A, South St. (Note that the exit is from the left lane.) At the top of the exit ramp, turn right onto South St.
  • From I-76 West: Take exit 346A, South St. At the top of the exit ramp, turn left onto South St.
  • From the New Jersey Turnpike: Take Exit 4 and follow signs for Philadelphia - Ben Franklin Bridge. After you've crossed the bridge, get on I-676 West, which cuts through Center City. Once on I-676, follow signs for I-76 East. From I-76 East, take exit 346A, South St. (Note that the exit is from the left lane.) At the top of the exit ramp, turn right onto South St.
  • From I-95: Take I-95 to I-676 West, which cuts through Center City. Once on I-676, follow signs for I-76 East. From I-76 East, take exit 346A, South St. (Note that the exit is from the left lane.) At the top of the exit ramp, turn right onto South St.

2. Next, follow South St., which turns into Spruce St., through the University of Pennsylvania campus. Turn left onto 38th St. Get into the right lane, and at the next light, take a right. Immediately bear left onto Woodland, passing the cemetery on your left.

  • For Rosenberger Hall: Follow Woodland to 43rd Street; go right on 43rd St. and park in the visitor parking lot on your left. We'll be in Rosenberger Hall, right next to the parking lot. (If no spots are available in the visitor lot, go back on 43rd St., cross Woodland, and lake a left into the main campus parking lot. You can also look for on-street parking, which is easy to find in the evenings or on weekends).
  • For the Wilson Student Center: Follow Woodland to 43rd Street; go left on 43rd St and park in the main parking lot. We'll be in the Wilson Student Center, which faces the parking lot -- the Wilson Center has two peaked roofs on top. (If no spots are available in the main lot, look for on-street parking, which isn't hard to find in the evenings or on weekends).
