An intensive week with George Lakey
Learn how to go beyond experiential education into the domain of transformation, assisting workshop participants to identify and loosen their emotional blocks to greater effectiveness. Prerequisite: Advanced Training of Trainers. - To take our next steps as facilitators, learning how to do transformational work in a workshop setting
- To examine the process of intervention: how to diagnose; how to observe and respect the inner process; when to intervene; intervention options
- To examine the process of group development, including how to identify the disavowed parts and effectively build a safe container
- To explore this work in relationship to our spiritual journey, recognizing that spirituality is often a disavowed part of social action groups
- To understand how this "micro-work" fits in the larger context of social change
- To have fun
This workshop has an application process. All graduates of our Advanced Training of Trainers are welcome to apply. Contact us to request an application form and return it with your deposit (your deposit will be returned if the workshop is full or your application is not accepted). George Lakey has spent the last ten years studying and practicing how to facilitate the process of workshop participants who want to go deeper than training formats usually encourage. His background includes the 36-day facilitator training offered by Insight Seminars, an organization which offers transformational training internationally, as well as many years spent learning Re-evaluation Counseling, Gestalt, and Process Work approaches. Along the way he has developed an approach for activists which draws on those traditions, and is eager to share his experience with other trainers of grassroots and nonprofit groups. The workshop begins with dinner at 6 p.m. Sunday, and runs through 6 p.m. Thursday. Like all of our trainings, the week is designed as an experiential package and requires full participation; partial attendance is not allowed. George’s approach includes demonstrations, discussions, practice, and spiritual work.. The workshop costs $200–$900, sliding scale based on income. The market value of this workshop is at least $2000; we’re able to offer it for less thanks to generous community support. The fee includes over 45 hours of training, meals during workshop hours, and simple lodging in neighborhood homes for people who request it. To determine your workshop fee, use the chart below. | If your income is... | You pay... |
| | under $15,000 | $200 | | $15,001-$25,000 | $300 | | $25,001-$35,000 | $450 | | $35,001-$45,000 | $600 | | $45,001-$55,000 | $750 | | over $55,000 | $900 | Are you being sent to the training by your employer? If so, don't use your income to determine the fee -- use the annual budget of the organization. For example, if the organization's annual budget is $48,000, your employer would pay $750 to send you to the training. If you have questions about the sliding scale fee, or you need more information about the workshop, feel free to contact us. |
